Wednesday night has come upon us and again we had the opportunity to take the gospel to the streets.
Tonight I got to bring a friend from Waukesha who evangelizes at frame park on Sundays to our Wednesday night evangelism outreach in Oconomowoc. Bob Wickland is a brother in Christ and fellow laborer in taking the word of God out into the streets. Tonight we joined together with Ed Manchester and Jay Johannes and went down to the gazebo by Fowler lake.
Jay and Ed split off and went north to the park where we occasionally baptise. While up there they had several awesome one to ones. Jay even went into the lake to witness to a couple of guys in hip waders. They spoke to Mark, Mark, Mike and Luke. Be praying for them as I am told that they recieved the gospel with humility and meekness. We cannot know who God is doing a work in but we can know are God is a consuming fire. We can know that those who are touched by Him will be forever changed. Praise God for His mercies which are new every day.
Bob and I walked the opposite direction and I was feeling extremely anxious and fearful. I had decided that if a crowd developed that I would open air preach tonight. The spiritual battle was fierce around me. I thank God for Bob as he walked as if he knew no fear and was passing out tracts to all we encountered. He gave a tract to a young lady who was dancing alone in the gazebo. He said "its a good person test, Ill come back later and let me know how you did." When we finally made our way back probably 20 minutes later, she admitted that she had failed the test. Bob proceeded to share the gospel with her while I prayed for them. While this was taking place I noticed a rather sizeable crowd had gathered of young men "hangin out" by their trucks. So I continued to pray but now was seeking courage from God to allow me to OA to them. When Bob finished speaking to the girl he was with he came by me and prayed over me as I began to tremble. What happened next was a complete testament to Gods awesome glory...
I jumped on my step stool and in a loud yet tonally friendly voiced proclaimed,"I am giving away money to anyone who can answer trivia correctly." People of course looked at me like"who is this crazy guy" but that started asking me lots of questions. So I fired away, "Who is the 43rd president of the USA." Would you believe that knowone knew the answer. So I asked a different question and 1 guy got it correct. I handed him a 1 dollar bill and proceeded with the next question. Someone else got it right and I gave them a dollar and it went on for a few questions. Now lets up the ante. "I have 5 dollars for the next question." Praise God the crowd grew to probably 14 people plus cars had stopped to listen as well. I said who here believes they are a good person. A guy named Tony raised his hand first. I said,"OK, if you can prove you are a good person, I will give you 5 dollars." He agreed. I then asked, "Have you ever told a lie?" "Have you ever used Gods name losely, as a cuss word?" "Have you ever looked at a woman to lust after her?" Tony admitted his guilt to breaking these commandments. He admitted he was guilty before God. He, however, had trouble admitting that because he was guilty of breaking Gods laws that on the day of judgement God would send him to hell for his crimes. He eventually concurred as all watched on. I then asked him if he or anyone else knew what God did so that they did not have to go to hell for their sins. I recieved a myriad of answers and none right.
I went on to tell them of Jesus Christ of the virgin birth. Who lived a sinless and holy life. Who was God in the flesh. Who suffered and died at the hands of an angry mob. Who hung on a cross and took the entire wrath of God upon himself. He who knew no sin became sin for us.Who suffered and died and was buried in a tomb and after 3 days was ressurected from the dead. He defeated death and sits at the right hand of the Father until he comes again to judge in righteousness all mankind. I asked, "Does this make sense?" Many nodded their heads. I then asked Tony to approach me. He reluctently did. I said,"Tony, you did not earn this money. You failed the test but I want you to see what grace is about. You see there is absolutely nothing you can do to save yourself. Even if you nevered sinned again you cannot atone for the sins of your past. The law of God cannot save you it only leaves you hopeless." I then handed him the 5 dollars and said what must you do to recieve this 5 dollars? He eventually said, "I must take it." I likened it to the grace of God that all we have to do is turn from our sin(Repent) and recieve the free gift of God through faith in Jesus Christ. Tony took the money kinda dumb founded.
I thanked everyone for listeneing and Bob and I then tryed to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit in who was listening intently to the message. Then a middle aged couple began asking us questions about where God is in their hardships in life. We answered there questions and very compassionately shared with them our testimonies and revealed all God gave us to give to them. The girls name was Lisa and soon the tears were streaming down her face. They were living together and living very ungodly lives and she was noticably convicted. We gave them a bible and some literature and prayed for them.
God used the 4 of us in a very mighty way. Please pray for all who heard this evening. Remember to keep us in your prayers for it is by Gods power alone that we can even speak at all. All Glory to our God
